Two Westfield Teens Taken Into Custody in Connection With Car Burglaries

Anyone who believes items may have been taken from their vehicle between the evening of Aug. 21 and the morning of Aug. 22, should call police at 908-789-4000.

Two males, ages 16 and 17, both of Westfield, were taken into custody in the early morning hours of Wednesday, Aug. 22 for , according to the .

Westfield Police Capt. Cliff Auchter said the department received a call at approximately 12:30 a.m. from a Columbus Avenue resident who reported hearing a car alarm. The resident also saw individuals running from that area. Officers responding to the scene observed two juveniles walking on Sycamore Street and detained them.

"The subsequent investigation resulted in the two juveniles being taken into custody for burglary and theft," Auchter said. "They were transported to headquarters and released to a responsible party."

Auchter said more property was recovered than can be accounted for from just the one vehicle. He asked residents who believe they may have had items removed from their cars between the evening of Aug. 21 and the early morning of Aug. 22 to call the station at 908-789-4000. 

Auchter said after the complaints are signed, the case will be assigned to family court.
