Two Westfield Men Arrested, Charged With Drug Possession

The following information was obtained from the Westfield Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Westfield police arrested Mathew Markus, 22, and Edwin Simmons, 22, both of Westfield, Sunday, Nov. 11, following an investigation into a suspicious vehicle at the intersection of Carleton Road and Washington Street in Westfield.

Markus was charged with possession of oxycodone, possession of Xanax, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS) in a motor vehicle. He was processed and released pending a court date.

Simmons was charged with possession of oxycodone, possession of oxycodone with the intent to distribute, possession of heroin, possession of heroin with the intent to distribute, possession of suspected marijuana, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute. He was processed and held in lieu of $40,000.

for allegedly committing burglary and theft at a residence on the 600 block of Radley Road in Westfield. Westfield Police Chief David Wayman said bail was set at $5,000 and Simmons was later remanded to Union County jail when he was unable to post bail.

On April 28, 2012 Clark police arrested Simmons in the vicinity of 76 Central Avenue for possession of CDS with intent to distribute. Bail was set at $10,000 and Simmons was subsequently released after posting bail.
