Two Injured in Two Car, Bike Accident at Central and North

Bicyclist taken to hospital by rescue squad after being hit by BMW.

Two people were injured in an accident involving two cars and one bicycle at the intersection of Central Avenue and North Avenue shortly after Noon on Thursday.

While the exact cause of the accident remains under investigation, police on the scene confirmed that a BMW convertible driven by a Westfield resident hit a woman on a bicycle at the intersection. The BMW was traveling on Central headed towards downtown and the bicyclist was attempting to cross Central. A Toyota Rav4 SUV behind the BMW then collided with the BMW.

A police officer on the scene was overheard explaining to the Toyota driver's sister, who came to the scene, that it was possible that the collision between the two cars caused the BMW to hit the bicyclist. These details have not been confirmed.

The bicyclist sustained injuries in the accident and was transported to the hospital by the Westfield Rescue Squad. A police officer on the scene said he did not know the extent of the bicyclist's injuries and the bicyclist did not appear to be mounted on a back board or have a head brace common to those with head and neck injuries.

"I'm so sorry, are you ok?" the Toyota driver said to the bicyclist as the bicyclist was taken away on a stretcher.
