Town Hall Meeting Planned After Southside Burglaries

Three burglaries near high school; computer, desk items and engagement ring taken.

A town hall meeting is planned for July 14 to discuss the recent burglaries in the neighborhood near the high school.

The meeting, which will start at 7 p.m., will include a presentation from the police department on home safety tips and a discussion of the crimes in the neighborhood. The meeting is planned for a private residence on Shadowlawn Drive.

Three homes were burglarized in the neighborhood in the last week, with no signs of forced entry in at least one case. Two of the cases occurred on June 10, when a house on the 600 block of West Broad Street was entered between midnight and 7 a.m., with a computer and purse taken, and a home on the 800 block of Shawdowlawn Drive had items taken from a desk.

The third case occurred on June 15 when a resident on the 800 block of Knollwood reported the theft of jewelry in the home. A gold chain, gold bracelet, engagement ring, pair of earrings and gold charms for a bracelet were all taken from the home. The resident could not put an immediate value on the items taken.
