Six Car Break-ins Oct. 2

Lottery tickets and $2 in change stolen.

Six cars were broken into in driveways in the Brightwood neighborhood in the early morning hours of Oct. 2.

The police received a report from a resident of the 1100 block of Prospect Street that 30 lottery tickets were taken from their car between 9:00 a.m. on Oct. 1 and 8:00 a.m. on Oct. 2. Shortly after this report a resident on the 1200 block of Prospect reported that $2 in change was taken from their car between 10 p.m. on Oct. 1 and 9:00 a.m. on Oct. 2.

Several blocks away on Woods End Road, three residents of the 300 block on the street reported to police that unlocked vehicles in each driveway were burglarized during the middle of the night. It appears that nothing was taken from any of these cars.

A resident of the 100 block of Madison Avenue, near both homes on Prospect, reported the same morning that there was a burglary to the vehicle parked in the driveway during the same time frame. It appears that nothing was stolen from the cars.

According to a police source, car break-ins like these occur in spurts in town and it is likely that a group of teenagers burglarized the cars. The stolen change cannot be tracked but the lottery tickets can be tracked if the orginial owner documented certain aspects of the ticket and the thief attempts to cash in a winning ticket.
