Cops: Woman Caught Stealing More Than $1,200 in Items

A Roselle Park woman and Westfield woman are both accused of shoplifting on North Avenue a few days apart.

A Roselle Park woman was caught trying to steal more than $1,200 worth of merchandise from a West North Avenue store last Friday night, Westfield Police said.

Sharon Washington-Bhamre, 48, was charged with shoplifting and possession of burglary tools.

According to a police report, Washington-Bhamre attempted to steal $1,271.98 worth of items and removed the security tags from the merchandise last Friday shortly before midnight in a store in the 600 block of West North Avenue. The name of the store was not disclosed.

The police report was also not clear if the store was open at the time of the incident. 

Washington-Bhamre was released on a summons pending a Superior Court date on Friday.

Days later, a Westfield woman was arrested for shoplifting also in the 600 block of West North Avenue. Linda Welham, 55, of Westfield, was transported to the Westfield Police Department after a shoplifting attempt at about 4 p.m., police said.

The amount of merchandise stolen was $269.48. Welham was processed and released pending an investigation into the incident.
