Police Blotter: Two Arrested in Attempted Train Robbery; Decked Out Bike Stolen

The Westfield police remained active over the last week arresting two juveniles on attempted armed robbery charges, responding to a shoplifting report at Lord & Taylor and handling routine warrant arrests.

Mice Lawson, 22, of Linden was arrested on a $227 Westfield warrant following at investigation at Cacciola and Ripley.

July 1

Two juveniles from Roselle were arrested for an attempted armed robbery. Police reports said that the suspects accosted three teens in the North Avenue train station parking lot around midnight, brandishing knives. They suspects demanded the teens empty their pockets. The suspects were scared off when the sister of one of the victims drove up. The suspects were arrested an hour later on the 300 block of South Avenue West.

July 5

Miguel Vergard-Cruz, 38, of Elizabeth was arrested during a motor vehicle stop for two New Brunswick warrants totaling $3078. He could not post bail.

A Scotch Plains resident reported the theft of a custom BMX bike. The bike is described as a white "Eastern" frame with black handlebars and purple grips. It has 20 inch rims that are purple and one blue crank and one white crank. It has a black seat with a purple wolf design and a green and white BMX sticker on the handle bar. It is valued at $994. This case is being investigated by the detective bureau.

July 6

Jamar Archer, 28, of Somerville was arrested on two Westfield warrants. He paid $1000 bail.

Omar Harris, 41, of Linden was arrested on a $578 Westfield warrant and a $350 Plainfield warrant.

Matthew Karapea, 26, of Springfield was arrested on the 300 block of Livingston Street on a Point Pleasant warrant.

Mary Jo Keller, 19, of Mountainside was arrested at Lord and Taylor and charged with third degree shoplifting as a result of a complaint received from a Lord and Taylor loss prevention officer. She was transported to police headquarters and released.

July 8

Kevin Burrell of Plainfield was arrested at Shackamaxon and Lawnside on a $250 Fanwood warrant.
