Police Blotter: Stolen Jewelry, Bad Checks, Attempted Stabbing of Police Officer

The police blotter is courtesy of the Westfield Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

August 20 - Ryjon Burke, 38, of Westfield, was arrrested for aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes. The officers who made the arrest had been called to the 100 block of Myrtle Avenue on a report of a disorderly person. Officers located the person, Burke, who then attempted to stab one of the officers. Subject was subdued and, after some struggle, disarmed. He is being held in lieu of $75,000 bail, with no 10% option, at Union County jail. 

August 20 - Sylvester Davis, 25, of South Avenue in Plainfield, was arrested on two outstanding criminal warrants (one for $930, one for $775) out of Plainfield Municipal Court pursuant to a stop at Clark Street and West North Avenue. Subject was transported to Westfield Police Department, processed and put in a holding cell in lieu of posting bail. 

August 21 - Jesela Vanegas, 25, of Newark, was arrested on an outstanding Newark warrant in the amount of $750.50 after a motor vehicle stop. Vanegas was released on her own recognizance pending a new court date.

August 21 - Eric Colgan/Golgan, 22, of Rooselvelt Avenue in Carteret, was arrested on an outstanding criminal warrant (for $500) out of New Brunswick pursuant to a motor vehicle stop on North Avenue in Garwood. Subject was taken to Westfield Police Department, processed and released on posted bail. 

August 22 - Gary Knight, 40, of East 5th Avenue in Roselle, was arrested on an outstanding traffic warrant (for $215) out of Linden Municipal Court pursuant to a motor vehicle stop on the 600 block of West South Avenue. Subject was transported to Westfield Police Department, processed and released on his own recognizance as per Linden Police Department.

August 23 - Tyshon Gonzalez, 22, of Plainfield, was arrested during a motor vehicle stop for hindering apprehension. Gonzalez provided officers with a fake name during their investigation. Officers discovered he was wanted on warrants issued by the police departments of Wildwood (for $750), Piscataway ($153), Willingboro ($500) and Edgewater Park ($1,000). His charge in Westfield was put on a warrant with bail set at $1,000, with no 10% option. He was being held pending a court date of August 24 at Westfield Municipal Court. 

August 24 - Luis Goman, 54 of Elizabeth, was arrested at the Elizabeth Police Department on an outstanding Westfield-issued warrant with bail set at $100. Subject was processed and held in lieu of bail pending an appearance in Westfield Municipal Court. 

August 25 - Victim of 200 block of East Broad Street reported an act of bad checks received by their business. Actor passed a bad check for $534.75 worth of merchandise. No suspect(s) have been reported at this time.

August 25 - Resident of 300 block of Clark Street reported $40,000 in jewlery had been removed from her safety deposit box at a local bank. Detectives responded but have no suspect(s) at this time.
