Police Blotter: Arrests for Shoplifting, Theft

Westfield Avenue resident says victim of identify theft

The Westfield Police remained busy last week with arrests for shoplifting and theft. These arrests are in addition to the other police cases reported in Westfield Patch on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Aug. 27:

  • A resident of Cacciola Place reported the theft of a wallet while on the 700 block of Central Avenue.
  • A resident of the 500 block of Westfield Avenue reported that they were the victim of identity theft. Police were told that someone had gained access to the victim's credit card information and had made unauthorized purchases.
  • A business on the 300 block of South Avenue East was the victim of shoplifting. The thief fled in a stolen car after receiving merchandise without payment.
  • Janice Lorenc of Dunellen was arrested on shoplifting charges after allegedly taking $650 in merchandise from a North Avenue business. An investigation by Westfield police revealed that Lorenc had three outstanding warrants in the total of $1,200.

  • Hailey Mroczek of Scotch Plains was arrested during a motor vehicle stop for DWI. She was released but her car was impounded.
  • Samuel Alertus, 20, of Elizabeth was arrested on an outstanding warrant out of Waterford Township in the amount of $258. The arrest followed a motor vehicle stop at the intersection of North Avenue and Prospect Street.
