Police Blotter: Resident Watches Theft From Unlocked Car

The following information was provided by the Westfield Police Department, it does not indicate a conviction.

Westfield police responded to several reports of items being stolen from unlocked vehicles around town in the last week. In one case, a resident spotted the burglary in progress and the sheriff's K-9 unit responded in an unsuccessful attempt to apprehend the suspect, who was seen running through yards.

Here is a look at the week in police activity.

June 24

A resident of the 700 block of Austin Street reported burglary and theft from their car while it was unlocked and parked between 12 a.m. and 11 a.m. on June 24.

Nancy L. Bouza, 19, of Garwood was arrested during a motor vehicle stop on a $500 Winfield warrant.

June 25

Jnecia P. Flanagan, 20, of Metuchen was arrested on a motor vehicle stop on a $200 Madison warrant.

June 26

Michael T. Napolitano, 18, of Fanwood was arrested for possession of under 50 grams of marijuana and for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Kendall Edwards, 26, of East Orange was arrested on a $500 Clark warrant by Westfield police on South Avenue East in Garwood.

June 27

An empty black suitcase was found on the 100 block of Quimby Street.

A resident of the 100 block of East Dudley reported an act of criminal mischief to their car while it was parked in the driveway. The passenger side rear window was smashed with an unknown object. The value is $250.

A business on the 500 block of North Avenue East reported a burglary. Two storage trailers in the rear lot were entered with a bolt cutter caused to snap the locks. A check of the area by the Union County sheriff's K-9 unit yielded negative results. It is unknown what items were taken.

June 28

A resident on the 100 block of East Dudley reported a burglary to their home. The resident said the suspect entered through a front window and took an iPad and $70 in cash.

June 29

There was a burglary to an unlocked car parked on the 400 block of Whittier Avenue. A car stereo was taken.

There was a left of an air conditioner on the 200 block of East Grove Street.

A Garmin GPS was stolen from an unlocked car parked on the 800 block of Village Green.

A resident of the 200 block of Seneca Place reported a burglary from her unlocked car while it was parked in her driveway. The theft occurred between 7:30 p.m. on June 29 and 12 a.m. on June 30.A Nuni 780 GPS and a charger were stolen. The value of the theft is $500.

June 30

A resident on the 700 block of Clarence Street observed a suspect committing a burglary to their unlocked vehicle while it was parked in the driveway. Police responded with the Union County sheriff's K-9 unit and saw the suspect running in yards towards Scotch Plains Avenue. The suspect was not caught and the matter in under investigation by the detective bureau.
