Police Blotter: Resident Arrested for Resisting Arrest

A look at the week in police activity.

Westfield police arrested a local resident on charges that he resisted arrest and fled when he was confronted by Westfield police in July over a previous arrest warrant. The arrested dominated a week in which bail warrants from multiple jurisdictions formed the bulk of local police activity.

Aug. 13

Richard A. Thomas, 44, of Westfield was arrested on the 500 block of Central Avenue on a Westfield court warrant issues on July 21. On that date Thomas resisted arrest and fled the scene while police officers were attempting to arrest him on a non bail civil warrant from the sheriff of Union County. He was processed and released on a $250 bail, whihc is the 10-percent option of his $2,500 bail.

Aug. 14

Anthony T. Bryant, 27, was arrested for simple assault following an investigation at the south side train station. He was transported to police headquarters, processed and placed in cell two awaiting bail to be set. A $500 Elizabeth warrant he was wanted for served as a detainer.

An act of criminal mischief was reported regarding playground equipment on the 700 block of Prospect Street.

Aug. 15

Mario Perez Jr., 24, of Middletown was arrested at the Sayreville State Police barracks on a Westfield warrant. He was transported back to Westfield and posted bail.

Aug. 16

Malcolm Boatwright, 19, of Plainfield was arrested on a $500 Westfield warrant. He was picked up at the Plainfield police department and held in cell one in lieu of bail.

Samuel A. Moore, 25, of North Plainfield was arrested on two South Plainfield warrants totaling $351 during a motor vehicle stop at South Avenue East and Elmer Street. He was transported to police headquarters and released.

Richard Johnson, 51, of Westfield was arrested on a no bail warrant from the sheriff of Union County following an investigation on the 300 block of Windsor. He was transported to headquarters, processed and then transported to the county jail.

Aug. 17

Emad Ayash, 31, of Elizabeth was arrested on an outstanding Linden warrant. He was then processed and released after posting bail.

Aug. 18

Ratajm L. Foster, 32, of Newark was arrested on warrants from Hillside and Westfield. He was processed and held.

Aug. 19

Judith B. Schmidt, 70, of South Plainfield was arrested on a Fanwood warrant after a motor vehicle stop. She was processed and released.
