Police Blotter: Police Investigating Stolen Cello

A look at the week in police activity.

There was a crime against music in Westfield last week, with a resident reporting an unattended cello being stolen from the front of their home.

Feb. 25

Ian Stabenow, 18, of Westfield was arrested at police headquarters on a $1,000 Union Township warrant. He was unable to post bail and transferred to Union Township.

Miguel Colon, 23, of Philadelphia, Penn. Was arrested for a theft which took place on the 600 block of North Avenue. He was arrested outside of a store on the 700 block of Central Avenue. Officers had responded to the area of the train station and traffic circle to a report from store security that they had chased a suspect outside after witnessing him steal seven watches. Four of the watches were found in a dumpster on the 400 block of South Avenue West. The watches that were recovered were valued at $870.

Merih Yarug, 25, of Westfield was arrested on a $89 warrant. He posted bail and was released.

Ralph Rotundo, 19, of Westfield was arrested on a $145 warrant. He posted bail and was released.

March 1

Ulysses Gonzalez, 22, of North Plainfield was arrested on the 400 block of South Avenue for hindering his apprehension and two warrants. He was processed and held on $2000 bail.

Randy Conway, 34, of Newark was arrested on the 40 block of Cardnal Drive for outstanding warrants from Newark, East Orange and Jersey City. He was held pending bail.

March 2

While investigating a motor vehicle incident where a vehicle involved had fled the scene, officers arrested Denise Kieger of Fanwood. Kieger has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident, involving property damage and DWi.

Anthony Hunter, 30, of Belleville was arrested on a warrant. He posted bail and was released.

Diana Cepeda-Jimenez, 28, and Mercedes Cruz-Ventura, 40, both of Plainfild were arrested for shoplifting from a business on the 600 block of North Avenue West. Both were processed and released.

A resident of the 1000 block of Central Avenue reported the theft of a cello from in front of their residence. The victim had placed the cello outside of their front door for approximately an hour. When they returned it was missing.
