Police Blotter: Mystical Half-Million and a Mercedes

A Westfield resident reported a potential fraud this week after she was told she won half a million and a Mercedes. Police also handled a series of warrant arrests and a residential burglary on West Broad Street.

Here is a look at the week in police activity.

Jan. 28

Olegario Meia of Kearny was arrested for a Scotch Plains warrant. He posted bail and was released.

Jan. 29

Warren Tyler, 19, of Westfield was arrested on  a Wall Township warrant. He was processed and released after posting bail.

Jan. 30

A residential burglary was reported on the 500 block of West Broad Street. Entry to the house was gained through a window. Two televisions and a laptop were removed.

Jan. 31

A $750 fraud was reported on Trinity Place.

Ethan Powell, 26, of Westfield was arrested on a $209 Westfield warrant. He posted bail and was released.

Feb. 1

Eric Tunis, 57, of Westfield was arrested on a $240 Westfield traffic warrant. He was posted bail and was released.

Jeffrey Teal, 31, of Piscataway was arrested on a $1000 Westfield warrant. An investigtion showed that he also had warrants from Clark in the amount of $541, from Newark in the amount of $700 and from Edison in the amount of $300. He was unable to post bail and was taken to the Union County jail.

Jeremy Smart, 30, of Easton, Penn. was arrested on  $500 Pohateong warrant following a motor vehicle stop. He was processed and released.

Feb. 2

A resident on the 900 block of Harding Street reported that she was the victim of an attempted fraud. The victim said that an unknown individual called her and said the victim won $500,000 and a new Mercedes. The suspect sai the victim needed to send $1591 to an address in Las Vegas, Nev. to cover shipping and handling.

Feb. 3

Samantha Marino, of Scotch Plains was arrested for DWI at East Broad Street and Harrison. She was processed and released to a sober adult.
