Police Blotter: January 28 - February 2

The following information was obtained from the Westfield Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Jan. 29 - Officers arrested Stephanie Avalos of Carteret for possession of COS/marijuana under 50 grams following a motor vehicle stop at North Avenue and Tuttle Parkway. Subject was released on her own recognizance and received a summons for a court date on Feb. 14.

Jan. 31 – Markis Farrell, 36 of Allentown, Pa., was arrested for an outstanding criminal “no bail” complaint warrant out of Westfield Municipal Court at Somerset County Jail. Subject was transported to headquarters, processed and placed into cell #1, awaiting bail to be set.

Selena Gonzalez, 21 of the Bronx, NY, was arrested for theft by deception and use of a false instrument for attempting to pass a fraudulent check in the amount of $4,965.48. Subject was transported to headquarters for processing, was released on her own recognizance and received a summons.

The reported being victim of theft. Two suspects removed two central air-conditioning units valued at $3,000.

February 1 – Resident of 500 Block of Summit Avenue reported being victim of theft. Victim said items stolen had a value of $2,050.

Gray and white flannel jacket was turned over to police by an employee of the business located on the 200 Block of East Broad Street. Employee said he was leaving work and found the jacket on the front seat of his vehicle, which was parked in Municipal Lot 5 when an unknown person left the jacket inside the vehicle.

Residents of the 1100 Block of Boynton Avenue reported a burglary and theft from their apartment. Victims stated that they left the apartment at approximately 5:30 p.m. and returned home around 6:18 p.m. While cooking in the kitchen, victim claims she heard a loud sound in the hall and then observed a dark-skinned male – possibly Hispanic or African-American – wearing dark clothes. Victim said the suspect ran through the living room and out the front door. No signs of forced entry were found. $215 cash was reported stolen.

Areported an armed robbery. Victim stated that suspect came to the rear door of the business and knocked on the locked door. The employee let the suspect in, believing the person was interested in catering. The employee lead the suspect to the register area before the employee went to get a catering menu. When the employee turned around to give the suspect the menu, the suspect pointed a silver and black handgun at the employee and demanded money. The employee complied, handing over approximately $1,180 in cash. The suspect ordered the employee to the ground and it is believed he then exited through the rear entrance. The suspect was described as a black male, between the age of 20 and 30, about 6 feet tall, athletic, with short hair and facial hair around the chin area. Suspect was wearing a black windbreaker jacket with no distinct marking, a Polo shirt (color unknown) and blue jeans. A search of the area by the provided negative results. The incident is currently under investigation.

February 2 – Alberto Gonzalez, 32 of Elizabeth, was arrested on the strength of a warrant for his arrest from the Union County Superior Court. Subject was processed and placed in cell #1 awaiting bail.

Roche Landolfe, 25 of Roselle, was arrested on the strength of an outstanding warrant for his arrest from the Westfield Municipal Court in the amount of $500. Subject was processed and placed in cell #2.
