Police Blotter: Brooklyn Man Arrested for Shoplifting from Banana Republic and Gap

A look at the week in police activity.

Westfield police were busy with a series of drug arrests during the past week, along with the arrest of a Brooklyn man accused of shoplifting from two downtown chain stores.

Feb. 4

Joao Rodrigues, 23, of Newark was arrested on a $689 Cranford warrant, a $201 Newark warrant, a $89 Harrison warrant and a $250 Union Township warrant following a motor vehicle stop at E. Broad and Davis Court. He posted bail and was released.

Jared Davis, 29, of Brooklyn, NY was arrested for shoplifting from Banana Republic. A furthur investigation showed that the suspect also shoplifted from the Gap. He was transported to headquarters and was processed and found to have a warrant out for his arrest from Jersey City in the amount of $53. Bail was set at $10,000 on the shoplifting charges and he was transported to the Union County Jail after he was unable to post bail.

Feb. 5

A business on the 100 block of North Avenue West reported the theft of a piece of merchandise valued at $570. The incident is under investigation.

Kabir A Nunnally was arrested for shoplisting from a business located on the 200 block of Elm Street. During the investigation it was discovered that he was in possession of suspected cocaine and drug paraphernalia. He also had outstanding warrants from Union Township in the amount of $1744.50, Garwood in the amount of $1,000, South Orange in the amount of $740 and Irvington in the amount of $809. He was processed and pending bail on the narcotics charge.

Feb. 6

Joseph J. Madden was arrested during a traffic stop in the area of East Broad and Wychview for DWI. He was transported to police headquarters, processed and released.

Ennis Williams II, 20, of Montclair was arrested during a traffic stop on the 100 block of Madison Avenue for possession of under 50 grams of Marijuana. He was processed and released.

Matthew O. Welty, 25, of Westfield and Stephanie Ashley, 21, of Newton were arrested during a traffic stop in the area of Central and Harwick for possession of under 50 grams of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. They were transported to police headquarters, processed and released.

Feb. 8

Stanley Paul, 23, of Roselle was arrested at the Roselle police department on an active Westfield warrant. He was processed and released.

Feb. 9

A resident on the 700 block of Marcellus Drive reported an incident of criminal mischief to two car while they were parked in the driveway between Feb. 7 and 8. The powering steering lines in both cars were disconnected and the power steering did not work. The amount of the damage is unknown.

Feb. 10

Ralph Margrege, 57, of Linden was arrested on a $200 Roselle warrant following a motor vehicle stop. He posted bail and was released.

A Coach gold bracelet was found in the parking lot of 243 East Broad Street and turned into the Westifeld police.

Gordon Grau, 52, of Bedminster was arrested at the Bedminster police on an $1000 Westfield warrant. He was processed and released.
