Police Blotter: Boynton Resident Asked to Send $5700 to Haiti

A look at a week in police activity.

A Boynton Avenue resident was asked to send $5700 to Haiti in a fraud that claimed a family member was sitting in jail. This report tops a week in police activity which included drug arrests and more break-ins to unlocked cars.

Sept. 2

  • There was a report of theft on the 600 block of Willow Grove Road. The suspect took a laptop computer valued at $500 from the location between Aug. 30 and Aug. 31.
  • John Acquado, 26, of Westfield was arrested on the 100 block of Ayliffe Avenue for possession of a controlled dangerous substance. He was issued a summons.
  • There was a report of a stolen GPS unit, valued at $200, from a business on the 300 block of South Avenue East between Aug. 30 and Sept. 2.
  • Joseph Pintauro, 42, of Cranford was arrested at the Middlesex County jail on a $1000 Westfield warrant. He was unable to post bail and transported to the Union County jail.

  • There was a report of attempted fraud on the 1000 block of Boynton Avenue. The report said the suspect called the home and said that a family member was in jail and needed bail money. The suspect asked the residence to wire $5700 to an address in Haiti.

Sept. 4

  • Edward Carter Jr., 36, of Westfield was arrested on a no bail warrant from the sheriff of Union County during a motor vehicle stop on North Avenue East and South Euclid. A $1000 North Plainfield warrant and a $250 Plainfield warrant was found. He was taken to the sheriff of Union County.
  • Jason Smith, 31, of Garwood was arrested on the 800 Embree Crescent during a burglar alarm investigation on the block. He was arrested on a $150 Newark warrant and posted bail.

  • Joan Portaro-Christopher, 44, of Westfield reponded to police headquarters to satisify a $106 Westfield warrant. Bail was posted.
  • Steven McIntyre, 25, of Linden was arrested on two Westfield criminal warrant while at the Roselle Park police department. He was transported to the Westfield police department where he could not post the $538 in bail. He was then transported to the Union County jail.

Sept. 7

  • A Mastercard credit card with the name Johnathan Cruz was found in Lot 7 and turned into the police. Calls made to the owner were not returned and the card has been secured.

Sept. 8

  • Evan Jadosz, 24, of Westfield was arrested at Park and Central and charged with DWI aftera traffic stop.

Sept. 9

  • A resident of Brooke Knoll Drive reported a burglary and theft from an unlocked car parked in the driveway between Aug. 19 and Aug. 20. A GPS unit was stolen.
  • A resident of Cherry Lane reported that $10 in change and a CD was stolen from an unlocked car.
  • Marcquesse Paisley, 18, of Edison was arrested on Central Avenue in Clark and chared with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana during a motor vehicle stop that started in Westfield.
  • Michael O'Connot, 24, of Plainfield was arrested on a $50 Mountainside warrant. He posted bail.
  • Matthew Feinstein, 27, of Scotch Plains was arrested at the Watchung police on a Westfield warrant. He was transported to Westfield and posted bail.
  • A resident on the 600 block of Tremont reported an abandoned bike on the street. The bike was secured by the police.
