Police and Fire Respond to Air Bag Deployment

Air bag deploys in Banana Republic parking lot.

Four police cars and a fire engine responded to the Banana Republic parking lot Wednesday afternoon after a report of a air bag deploying after a car hit a curb in the parking lot.

According to a witness, a Banana Republic employee was parking her grey Acura in the parking lot when the car's tires hit the curb in front of her. The force of the impact caused the air bag to deploy and potentially injure her. The driver was transported by a third party to a doctor in Garwood, and police and fire units responded to reports of a burning odor coming from the car. The car was determined not to be on fire or in danger of explosion.

Firefighters on the scene tried to open the car's hood to determine any engine damage but could not get it open. After securing the vehicle and providing the driver's belongings to a Banana Republic employee the public safety officials called a tow truck to remove the car. The police left the scene and firefighters remained to guard the car until a tow truck arrived.
