North Carolina Man Arrested After Police Pursuit

Police followed the driver after he sped past them on North Avenue.

A North Carolina man was arrested by Westfield police Sunday night after a chase down North Avenue that ended in a vehicle crash.

Ahmed Mostafa, 22, of Greensboro, N.C., was arrested for three counts of receiving stolen property, one count of resisting arrest, one count of possession of marijuana under 50 grams, and six summons for motor vehicle violations.

Police Captain Clifford Autcher told Patch that a patrol car had stopped a vehicle for a traffic light violation at the intersection of North Avenue and East Broad Street late Sunday when a 2009 Toyota Tacoma barreled past on the right at high speed. As Westfield police began to pursue the vehicle, they noticed it make a left on to Crossway Place and then turn onto South Avenue, where it crashed into a pole on the 1100 block.

Two men fled the truck and after a short foot pursuit, the driver, Mostafa, was arrested. He was transferred to Union County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail. The other man is still at large.

Mostafa was also wanted in North Carolina for numerous crimes including multiple counts of larceny, receiving stolen or transferring stolen property, and conspiracy.
