Mattress Fire Delays Trains

Service restored

A minor mattress fire temporarily delayed service along the Raritan Valley train line in Westfield this evening. According to officials with the Westfield Police Department, a mattress was found on fire on the tracks and NJ Transit was contacted. Service was temporarily delayed because of the fire and the resulting fire department activity.

The fire was extinguished and the mattress removed from the tracks. Service has been restored to the train line.
