Lightning Believed to be Behind Weekend Fire on Hort Street

Kitchen damaged in fire that brings out fire departments from neighboring towns.

A lightning strike is believed to be the cause of a fire in a Hort Street residence early Sunday morning.

A fire department source said that the department received a call at 12:48 a.m. on July 25 of a fire at 518 Hort Street. Firefighters at the scene were able to contain the fire to the home's kitchen, with smoke damage throughout the house.

No injuries were reported in the fire. Fire officials believe that lightning striking the house caused the fire.

Cranford firefighters responded to the scene to assist. Firefighters from Scotch Plains, Fanwood and Garwood provided coverage of fire headquarters during the fire.
