$11K in Jewelry Stolen, Five Burglaries Under Investigation

Four homes and one business were broken into last month.

Four homes and one commercial business were reported burglarized last month with more than $11,000 in jewelry reported stolen from one residence, Westfield Police said.

A business on East Broad Street reported on Oct. 10 that entry was made by a back door being pried open and $1,400 in cash was removed. On the same day, but reported two days later, a resident of Drummond Road reported a burglary to the residence, which occurred between 7:30 and 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 10. The residents returned home and observed a rear window screen was removed and on the porch. It appeared that several pieces of jewelry were stolen, the homeowners reported.

Two days later, a resident of the 100 block of Lincoln Road reported a burglary had occurred between 7:15 and 10:40 p.m. on Oct. 12. It appeared entry was gained through a first floor windowpane and then gained entry after unlocking and forcing the adjacent basement window open, police said Several bedrooms were ransacked, but it was unknown what items were stolen, according the report.

A second resident of the 100 block of Lincoln Road reported on Oct. 15 a burglary to the residence, which occurred some time within the previous week, police said. Entry was gained through a second-floor French door after a second-floor balcony was climbed over by "unknown means," according to the report.

Jewelry worth $11,400 was reported stolen from the second-floor bedrooms, police said.

A eresident of the 600 block of Prospect Street reported on Oct. 29 a burglary to the residence. Dresser drawers and jewelry boxes were rummaged through and $60 was stolen from a table on the first floor, police said.

The burglaries are under investigation by the Westfield Police Department’s detective bureau.
