Five Cars Broken into Last Week at Private Homes

Police chief says auto break-ins are type of crime that comes in spurts.

Five cars were broken into at private residences on Aug. 21, a type of crime Police Chief John Parizeau said typically comes in spurts in the town.

On Aug. 21, the police responded to four residents reporting thefts from their cars. The fifth complaint came on Aug. 23, with the theft likely occurring several days before. Some cars were locked while others were unlocked at the time they were broken into.

The Aug. 21 complaints were:

  • A resident on the 700 block of Hyslip Avenue reported the theft of $1,350 in items from an unlocked car.
  • A resident on the 200 block of Edgewood Avenue reported the theft of $4,615 in property from a locked car.
  • A resident on the 200 block of Seneca Place reported the theft of $670 in items from an unlocked vehicle.
  • A resident on the 600 block of Cumberland Street reported the theft of $35 in property from a locked vehicle.

On Aug. 23, a resident on the 700 block of Coleman Place reported the theft of a Garmin GPS system from an unlocked car in their driveway. The theft likely occurred between Aug. 15 and Aug. 22.

Parizeau said the car break-ins are not common, but have occurred in waves. He said as many as 20 cars have been broken into in town on a given night during a wave.
