Edison School Principal Sends Letter to Parents Addressing Evacuation

Students were evacuated Thursday afternoon after a threat was found in the bathroom.

The following letter was sent to Edison School parents Thursday afternoon after students were temporarily evacuated:

Dear Edison School Families,

This afternoon, I was made aware of a threat that was written on a bathroom mirror during the school day. I contacted the authorities and evacuated the building. The students evacuated according to our fire drill procedures and were then escorted to Kehler Field where they sat with their teachers and classmates. After the building was deemed safe and the threat determined to be unfounded, the students returned to school and were dismissed at the end of the day.

We were incredibly impressed with the students and extremely pleased that our procedures for such an incident proved to be effective.  I understand that many of the students are talking about the event.  The school counselors and I will be debriefing with students tomorrow during a 20/20 lunch meeting.

Please know that the safety and security of our students is our most important responsibility.  We will investigate who made this false threat and respond appropriately.
