Cash Stolen in South Avenue Pharmacy Robbery

The following information was provided by the Westfield Police Department, it does not indicate a conviction.

A wad of cash was stolen from on South Avenue during a robbery last Thursday.

Police Captain Clifford Auchter said an individual described as a black male, about five feet, six inches tall, wearing a white coat and a red shirt, between 25 and 30 years of age, walked into the store in the afternoon. He said the suspect proceeded to go through the process of making a purchase in the store, and when the cash register was opened, the suspect proceeded to grab cash from the register.

Auchter said no weapon was produced during the robbery and that $56 in cash was taken from the register. He said the cashier proceeded to grab the suspect’s arm during the robbery to prevent the cash from be taken.

No one was injured in the robbery. The police report did not indicate if anyone else was in the store at the time of the robbery.

Auchter said the suspect proceeded to exit the store and entered a dark colored Chevy Trailblazer driven by an unknown individual. The SUV was last seen headed west bound on Drake Place.

Auchter said the suspect only grabbed for the money in the register and did not attempt to steal any drugs from the pharmacy during the robbery.

Auchter said the police have a video of the robbery obtained from a surveillance camera in the store. He said the department is only distributing the video within law enforcement circles at the present time.

Auchter said the case remains under investigation by the detective bureau.
