Update: Pedestrian Struck by Car at Central Avenue and Cacciola Place

Investigation is ongoing.

This story was updated at 4 p.m. to include information from Westfield Police Capt. Scott Rodger:

Westfield Police Capt. Scott Rodger confirmed that a pedestrian was struck by a motor vehicle Wednesday morning near the intersection of Central Avenue and Cacciola Place.

The man was transported to University Hospital. Rodger could not comment on the extent of the victim's injuries nor could he say if he is a Westfield resident. Rodger, who said he had not seen the accident report yet, could not say if the driver was issued a summons.

This is the second pedestrian to be hit during midday in Westfield this month. Two weeks ago, a man crossing North Avenue illegally was struck by car. He, too, was transported to University Hospital.

The Westfield Police Department is investigating a car accident that occurred shortly after 11 a.m. Wednesday morning at Central Avenue and Cacciola Place.

The Westfield Fire Department and Volunteer Rescue were also at the scene. Traffic on Central Avenue was backed up in both directions until shortly after 11:30 a.m.
