Alarm Interrupts Alden Avenue Home Burglary

Burglars tripped the home's alarm system but fled the scene before police arrived.

A home burglary on the 400 block of Alden Avenue was interrupted when the intruders tripped the home's alarm system by putting down the attic stairs after forcing their way in through a second story window, according to Westfield police.

Officers responded to the home shortly after 9:30 p.m. Aug. 5 and discovered the opened window as well as signs of attempted forced entry to the rear windows and door of the home.

The burglars fled the scene prior to the officers' arrival and were unable to be found following a search of the surrounding neighborhood. The homeowners were out of town at the time of the break-in, Capt. Scott Rodger said.

It is unknown at this time if anything was taken from the home as the residents are still on vacation, Rodger added. The burglary is currently under investigation.
