Front Door Smashed in Burglary Attempt of W. North Avenue Business

Burglar fled after failing to crack vault by striking it several times with a hammer, police said.

The front door of a business in the 100 block of West North Avenue was smashed in an attempted burglary early Monday morning, police said.

After gaining entry, the burglar tried to break into the business' vault by striking its door with a hammer, police said. Multiple attempts failed and the burglar fled the building, police said.

It is unknown if any proceeds were removed from the premises and the amount of damage caused during the incident is also undetermined, according to police.

Capt. Scott Rodger said he could not release the name of the business as the incident is currently being investigated by the detective bureau.
