Burglar Gains Entry to Westfield Home by Puncturing Panel of Side Door

Two Westfield homeowners reported jewelry thefts on Jan. 4 and 5.

During the first week of January, two homeowners reported thefts of jewelry from their homes and an educational institution reported the theft of a piece of equipment, according to the Westfield Police Department.

On Jan. 2 at approximately 1:16 p.m., an educational facility on Cardinal Drive reported the theft of a school-crossing gate from a bus in the parking lot sometime between Dec. 20, 2013 and Jan. 2. The value of the gate was estimated at $300, the report said.

Days later, a resident of the 1100 block of Central Avenue reported that between 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 4 someone punctured a hole through the wood panel of the interior rear side door of the home and gained entry, Westfield Police said. The alleged burglar(s) stole jewelry form the residence.

Also, on Jan. 5, a resident of the 800 block of Willow Grove Road reported the theft of two watches from their residence, which occurred sometime between Nov. and Jan. 5.

The Westfield Police Department is investigating these incidents.
