Brief: No Injuries in Wednesday Senior Citizen Fire

Fire contained to first floor.

Wednesday’s fire at the senior citizen housing complex on Boynton Avenue was contained to a first floor unit, with not injuries to residents or firefighters.

A statement from the FMBA said firefighters encountered smoke in the hallways and found most of the fire extinguished by the building’s sprinkler system, with the fire department extinguishing the rest. Firefighters removed part of the wall to investigate if the fire had spread. Residents had been evacuated by the building staff and an investigation was conducted to determine the cause of the fire.

During the incident, firefighters from Cranford, Roselle and Plainfield provided cover at Westfield fire headquarters.
