Accident on South Avenue Near Train Station Knocks Down Light

Crews are working at the scene.

Westfield police and fire departments responded to the scene of a car accident that took out a couple of traffic lights on South Avenue West and Summit Avenue Monday night, according to reports.

A vehicle struck a traffic signal and a pedestrian crosswalk light as well as the short wall that lines the sidewalk near the South Avenue train station. A witness told Patch that the front of the car was "plowed deep into the light pole that it hit."

Westfield police said crews from an electric company are working to fix the light. It is expected to be restored in time for the Tuesday morning rush hour.
