Westfield Public Works Slushes Sidewalks Unnecessarily

Who besides me is pissed off that the Town snow plows are driving so fast that they are throwing the street slush 15 feet up and over the already high snow banks right on our shoveled sidewalks?
And it is obligations as homeowners to maintain the clearance of the sidewalks that the Town has messed up.  This snow slush is heavy.  See the pictures from Lawrence Avenue this morning.

I totally agree considering the fact that this town is less than 7 square miles. There's no excuse for this.

I too agree. As the message I left with the secretary at the public works department said, I don't complain often but the idea of piling 3 feet of snow and ice on to peoples sidewalks is unconscionable. In our situation public works could have plowed all of the snow on the road into Clark park, instead they chose (or never thought about what they were doing) to cause residents to clean up or at least attempt to clean up the mess that they left. And no, no one from public works ever called us back.

I also agree. I left a message yesterday asking them to clear the stormdrain so the lake in front of my house could drain. No response at all. Disgraceful!!! After my neighbor and I dug out the stormdrain, a town plow came by and asked if he could remove the snow and clear the drain. He moved the snow, plugged the drain and left. Is this what my taxes are used for? If I don't do my job, I don't have one. Employ people who will do the job right the first time. The side streets in this town are accidents waiting to happen. Where the hell is the salt? The roads are so bad that this town was on TV and this morning nothing has changed. There us an empty lot on my block that the snow could have been pushed into but no - let's let the citizens of this town do the job Public Works is suppose to do. AFTER HEARING THESE COMMENTS AND COMPLAINTS ARE YOU GOING TO DO ANYTHING????? Here's a thought - ticket every car $200 that is left on the street during a storm and watch how fast cars will be moved. There is no reason not to do every street curb to curb. If other towns can do a decent job - so can this town.

I agree with everything posted and along with those issues want to know why the town does not have an ordinance that prohibits parking on streets during snow emergencies when off street parking is available? There are very few neighborhoods where there is no off street parking available and those should be the exceptions. The other issue is when the plows only plow the middle of the street and stay 6 ft to 8 ft away from the edge of the curbs or sidewalks even when no cars are on the street. My sump pump (required by the township) drains to the street and when it can't drain because of inadequately plowed snow backs up in the basement. All of our township "Professionals" make a very good wage and have exceptional benefits and should take more care in doing their jobs.
