LearningRx Warren Celebrates Read Across America Day with Book Drive & Special Brain Skills Assessment Promotion

Warren, NJ, - Monday, March 3, 2014 is Read Across America Day and local brain training center LearningRx Warren, located at 34 Mountain Blvd, Bldg. C is hoping to raise awareness about dyslexia (“trouble with words”) by offering discounted cognitive skills assessments to area children and adults.

Read Across America is a celebration of beloved children’s book author Theodor Geisel (aka Dr. Seuss). Dr. Seuss epitomizes a love of reading and learning, most especially for children.  The signature use of rhyme in his books has captured the public’s hearts and minds for decades and has inspired a love of reading in even the very youngest of readers.

Commemorating Dr. Seuss’ birthday and celebrating Read Across America is one of many ways that LearningRx Warren hopes to raise awareness about the importance of reading and to provide hope and help for those struggling as a result of dyslexia or other learning challenges. There are many benefits of reading with and to our children and LearningRx Warren encourages parents to make time to do just that. In the words of Dr. Seuss, "You're never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read to a child."

Throughout the month of March, LearningRx Warren is offering a reduced brain skills assessment and consultation package to anyone who brings a new book for the Center’s donation box. The Woodcock Johnson III Tests of Cognitive Abilities measure a person’s core brain skills, including memory, attention, logic and reasoning, visual and auditory processing and processing speed.  Once skills are measured any weaknesses can be targeted and trained to make learning faster, easier and more efficient.  At the end of March, the collected books will be donated to a local charity.

According to Marcia Douglas, Executive Director and Owner of LearningRx Warren, “Reading is a crucial skill for school and life. The good news is that there is now a scientific way to train reading so that even struggling readers can become good readers.”  Douglas went on to explain, “An estimated 88 percent of struggling readers are deficient in auditory processing and phonemic awareness - - the brain’s ability to separate, segment, target and analyze sound.  Our brain training programs strengthen these skills and actually change the brain to help it process information faster and more efficiently.” By treating the cause of difficulties with reading, a person is able to have lifelong gains.
