Christopher Academy Celebrates International Day of Peace

The children and staff of Christopher Academy in Scotch Plains and Westfield gathered around the Peace Pole Garden on September 18 and September 20 at their respective campuses for communal song and reading and to share a moment of silence to honor the United Nations International Day of Peace.   Peace education is an integral component of the Montessori curriculum at Christopher Academy and one of the hallmarks of the Montessori philosophy.

Dr. Montessori wrote, “Peace is what every human being is craving for and it can be brought about by humanity through the child.”   To that end Christopher Academy remains true to Dr. Montessori’s vision to create a peaceful environment wherein the individual child can reach their full potential and form a lifelong love of learning.  Grace, courtesy, respect for others and the environment, and social consciousness are essential to this aim.

Christopher Academy, established in 1963, maintains premier status as the oldest Montessori school in New Jersey.
