World War II Veteran, Joseph McSweeney of Westfield, Dies at 85

McSweeney lived in Westfield for more than 50 years.

The following information was provided by Dooley Colonial Funeral Home.

Joseph M. McSweeney of Westfield passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 5, 2013 surrounded by his loving family.  Relatives and friends are kindly invited to visit the Dooley Colonial Home, 556 Westfield Ave., Westfield on Sunday, December 8, 2013 from 2-5 pm.  The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 10 am at Holy Trinity Church, Westfield with entombment to follow at St. Gertrude Cemetery.

Mr. McSweeney was born in Roselle and has resided in Westfield for more than 50 years.  He was a veteran of the US Navy and served during World War II.  Joseph received his MBA from Rutgers University and was a Senior Systems Analyst and Project Manager for Prudential Insurance Company in Roseland for 40 years before retiring many years ago.

He was an avid Rutgers fan who loved playing golf and bowling along with supporting the Westfield Soccer Association.

Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Patricia and their children; Glenn and his wife Christine and Kathleen Cristiano and her husband Robert.  He will also be deeply missed by his six grandchildren; Danielle and Nicole Cristiano along with Matthew, Sean, Danny and Timmy McSweeney.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Westfield Rescue Squad.
