Westfielders Take Care of their Own

The last 12 days have been difficult days for all of us who live in Westfield and certainly even worse down the shore and in Staten and Long Island. But what has moved me to pen this is the way 07090-ers have responded to other Westfielders in need. Those that were fortunate enough to not lose power (and all the amenities that goes with that) could have just stayed home and let somebody "else" step up and help. But the exact opposite happened. The have's came through big time for the have nots. (my family being one of those for 11 days)

I won't name names for privacy reasons but those that stepped up to invite us (including my 85-year-old mom) for meals, warmth, phone charging, TV and Internet will never be forgotten. They are our heroes. And I am hearing stories like this all over Westfield- lending generators, hooking up heat with makeshift devices, sharing gas and gas cans- you name it- the good people of Westfield came through for each other.

And I am so proud to be a 21-year resident and want to say THANK YOU to all for stepping up. To quote Bruce (you knew that was coming):

"Leave behind your sorrows, let this day be the last, Tomorrow there'll be sunshine and all this darkness past."

Well done, Westfield- well done.
