Fall Decorating Ideas

Interior decorating is one of my favorite hobbies. Selling homes for so long has taught me a thing or two about home décor, and I love helping my client add those attractive seasonal touches. Fall is my favorite time of year – and I absolutely love decorating my home for the season. As the days become shorter and the temperatures dip lower, it’s time to bring some warmth back into your home.  Fall is all about cozy decorating ideas that highlight this beautiful season.

Here are a few Fall-themed home decorating ideas that will help make your home warm and welcoming this season:

1. Bring on the pumpkins! Hit your local pumpkin farm, pick your favorites, and bring ‘em on home.  Nothing says fall like having pumpkins around. Make a nice little display on your porch or down your front steps. Be creative and carve your house number into a small pumpkin, or your family’s last name! If you have a kids, pumpkin carving is a fun activity that will get everyone into the fall spirit.

2. Bring nature indoors. Go out into the yard and pick up some sticks, acorns, pretty leaves of different colors, and whatever else you can find that gives you a warm fall feeling. Put them all together into a beautiful fall foliage arrangement somewhere in your house. This could be a nice focal point near your front door when guests visit. If you can’t find any suitable materials outdoors, you can always stop by the local arts and crafts store and purchase some fake material. In some cases, the fake foliage works better because it lasts longer.

3. Bring out the warm fall colors. The paint colors which express this time of year best are rusty, deep, and muted, or robust and bright. Oranges and deep reds are some of my favorite colors to use in my home this time of year. If you are feeling ambitious, pick a fall color that you like and paint the walls in one of your rooms to really warm up your home. Another quick and fun option is to purchase some throw pillows that have vibrant fall colors and arrange them on your sofas and chairs throughout your home.

4. Bring out your crafty side. I can’t even begin to list the many different types of fall crafts you can do. From beautiful autumn wreaths for your front door to homemade air fresheners using oranges and cloves – there are so many options! I love using Pinterest to get ideas for crafts because there are so many visual examples and super simple projects.

Well, there you have it!  My quick and easy list of some fun ideas to highlight the fall season in your home this year. Celebrating the season by decorating your home makes you feel good about this time of year and makes your home that much more inviting. Do you have any quick fall decorating tips you’d like to share?  I’d love to hear about them, and as always, I would love to help with any questions you might have about decorating, or about real estate in general!
