We remember Greta Schoenemann

The last time I saw Greta Schoenemann, we were at the High School's moment of silence for the 1st anniversary of 9/11. The rest of us would gather again that night, on the same lawn, in a moment of silence for her.

But on this day, 11 years later, 1,000 shirts arrived for the inaugural year of Greta's Run. They were delivered by a man with the Schoenemann Family's favorite hockey team, the NJ Devil's, tattooed on his arm.

Greta's Run is a special moment for our community and much more than just a 5k. I hope you join us to honor the girl we all loved.

See you Sunday!

Greta's Run is a 5k Run/Walk & Fundraiser founded in memory of Greta Schoenemann, a WHS freshman who died from injuries sustained on 9/11/02 when a tree limb fell on her and a table of friends as they ate lunch. Founded by Greta's childhood friends Ben Nanna and Jayne Ruotolo, all proceeds will benefit new and existing special needs programs at the Westfield Area Y. A gesture that would be close to Greta's heart because her sister Elise has Cerebral Palsy. To learn more about Greta's Run or to register, visit the 5K's website.
