Westfield's Fifth Annual Pink Out Raises $28K

The event was held on Oct. 11 at Westfield High School.

The Westfield community raised $28,000 for Susan G. Komen through this year’s “Pink Out” fundraiser.

“It would have never been possible without the hard work of our volleyball parents and incredible generosity of the Westfield community,” Junior Varsity Coach Sara Liptack said.

For the fifth year, the Westfield High School volleyball team has hosted the annual Pink Out, which raises awareness and funds for Breast Cancer, as well as honors Breast Cancer survivors, including the team's coach, Bev Torok.

On Oct. 11, hundreds packed the Westfield High School gymnasium to cheer on the Westfield Volleyball teams and raise awareness and funds for Breast Cancer.

The freshman team lost their first two matches, while the Junior Varsity team won both matches, continuing their 9-0 record. Both Varsity matches were tied at many occasions in a back-to-back competitive match, but the Blue Devils ultimately lost both matches to Watchung Hills, 25-14 and 25-21.

All proceeds from the event will go to the Susan G. Komen foundation. Last year, the girls raised over $20,000 for the foundation and they are happy to have topped that goal this year.

“It is really an inspiration seeing everyone here,” Westfield volleyball co-captain, Kayla Rodrigues, said following the annual "Pink Out."

Liptack addressed the crowd following the matches and expressed how unbelievable the turn out continues to be each year.

She added that the girls look forward to giving Susan G. Komen another "big, big check" at their end of season banquet on Dec. 9.
