Each year, the College Woman’s Club of Westfield awards two-year grants to a select amount of young women who will be attending college come the fall. The organization is accepting applications until March 3 for the 2014 scholarships.

In 2013, the club awarded $54,400 in scholarship to eight women from Westfield including seven from the Class of 2013 and one current undergraduate.

Students are selected based on their academic achievement, financial need and community service

“With tuition costs representing a significant share of families’ financial resources, our scholarship program seeks to help deserving young women in the community realize their dream of achieving a college education,“ Scholarship Chairperson for the club, Deidre Malacrea, said.

The recipients of the 2013 scholarship are currently pursuing studies that range from pre-med to computer science and more. Applicants must have lived in Westfield for at least one year prior to applying. Two-year grants are awarded to students who will attend college in the fall and undergraduates can apply for one-year grants.

Applications are available online on the Westfield High School website under the Counseling Department page.  The complete application can be submitted until March 3 at 3 p.m. to the secretary Counseling Department secretary at the high school. Westfield students that attend private schools are also encouraged to apply.
