Strategies for Sticking to Your Diet

Dieting can be difficult, but with a few strategies, you can make it easier to stick to. Here are a few tactics to ensure you stick with your diet.

1. Keep Calories as High as Possible

Some people put their calories too low from the start of a diet. If you can lose weight with 2,000 calories, why start your diet at 1,800? Eat as much as possible while still being able to shed the pounds. It may take a couple of weeks to determine the right amount of food to eat, but it will be worth your time in the long run.

2. Have “Cheat Foods” in Moderation

Don’t be obsessed with only sticking to clean foods for the entirety of your diet. This isn’t realistic, and it will drive you crazy. For example, if you are dieting on 2,000 calories a day, allocate anywhere from 300-400 of those a day to manageable “cheat foods” such as a lean cheese burger, cereal, low fat ice cream, or another sweet treat. This allows you to eat foods you enjoy, while keeping the majority of your diet to more nutrient-dense options. If you don’t go over your calorie goal, you will still lose weight.

3. Lift Weights

This strategy is basic, but not enough people understand the reason behind it. Lifting weights will build muscle mass. Having more muscle mass will boost your metabolism. A boosted metabolism allows you to eat more while still losing weight. Eating more makes a diet easier to stick with!
