Holiday Support

Parenting Our Parents At the Holidays

On Monday Dec. 9 at 7:30 p.m., the

Parenting Our Parents group at thePresbyterian Church in Westfield will

sponsor a conversation with Carol Pedro, the executive director of the Youth

and Family Counseling Services. Carol will be in the Christian Lounge to talk about

how those caring for loved ones can navigate around the emotional roadblocks

during the holidays.

The Christmas season, for most, comes with anticipation of minting new memories and the retrieval of old one etched in years past. Still for some those memories are just about all there is any more.

Rewinding them can be painful, especially when those who played prominent roles

in holidays past aren’t what they were.

Those who once gave so much now seem

to demand so much.  And those who

find themselves meeting that demand, often feel frustration, resentment, even

anger and that can trigger embarrassment and guilt. The holiday season often

intensifies these emotions.

The evening’s discussion is open to all. If you are providing care for someone who nurtured you years ago please join the conversation on Dec. 9. If you know of someone who is in that situation please urge them to come.
