AUDITIONS FOR TALENTED HIGH SCHOOL SINGERS- THE MAGIC FLUTE

The Pineda Lyric Opera Young Artists is holding auditions for talented high school singers for a special production of
Mozart's THE MAGIC FLUTE.

The production will be performed at the CDC Theatre in Cranford on June 4th, 5th and 6th.  Those selected will join the Pineda Lyric Opera Young Artist program of weekly friday evening classes in a tuition free program.

The opera will be fully staged with a small orchestra.  The directors have made specific changes to some parts of the opera to make it more suitable for young singers.

Auditions will be held at 7PM, Friday night February 1st at the First United Methodist Church at 1171 Terrill Rd in Scotch Plains.

Please prepare 32 bars of art song or aria in any language, or legit musical theatre (absolutely no belting).  Those called back will be asked to sing more.

Because of the difficulty of some roles, some parts of the show will be transposed into lower keys to be more suitable for young singers.

Rehearsals will be held Friday Evenings, with some weekend rehearsals closer to the performance in June.

The cast breakdown is as follows: Tamino (Tenor) prince, some parts may be lowered, Papageno (Baritone) bird catcher, comic role, Monostatos (Tenor) a Moor, cheif slave of the temple, Sarastro (Bass or Bass Baritone- could be mezzo too)- High Preist,  Pamina (soprano) daughter of Queen of the Night, in love with Tamino, Papagena (soprano) bird girl, romantic interest to Papageno , Queen of the Night (soprano- aria's will be lowered) ,Three Ladies: (sop 1, Sop 2, Mezzo) fiery servants to the Queen of the Night- fun large parts, Two Priests (tenor and bari or soprano and mezzo) judgemental fortune tellers
