Aaron, who
has been performing since he was young, also worked in advertising until six
years ago. For years, he focused on commercial music, but since 1980 he has
concentrated on swing. He reportedly fell in love with swing music as a high
schooler in Irvington; his favorite clarinetists were Benny Goodman, whom Aaron
heard many times in Newark, and Artie Shaw.
Aaron regularly
conducts music programs and is a sought-after speaker by many organizations and
schools.
The Anne
and Lee Hale Series, now in its sixth season, was founded by Lee Hale in memory
of his wife, Anne, an active community volunteer until her death in 2007. Lee
Hale passed away earlier this year.
The series receives its main
funding from The Thomas Glasser Foundation and the Anne and Lee Hale Fund. The Friends of Westfield Memorial Library hosts the series.
Previous speakers in the 2013
series included former Giants’ quarterback Dave Brown, Union County College
president Margaret McMenamin, and Martin Robins, director emeritus of the Alan
Voorhees Transportation Canter at Rutgers.
The Aaron talk is open to the
public but pre-registration is required. Those planning to attend can register
