How Did Westfield Vote?

A breakdown of how each Westfield ward voted in Tuesday's election.

Westfield voters favored Christie, re-elected Andy Skibitsky for a third term and overwhelmingly passed the bond referendum for Westfield Public Schools, but how did each and every area of town vote? We’ll take a look below.

Of Westfield’s 21,513 registered voters, 48 percent turned out for Tuesday’s election.

Haas received a majority of the votes for Ward 3, Districts 1-3 over Skibitsky.

Sam Della Fera(R) was running unopposed for the First Ward and received 1,578 votes, while Vicki Kimmins(R) also ran unopposed for the Second Ward receiving 1,444 votes.

Third Ward

The third ward was Westfield’s closest race. Sontz trailed behind by a mere 80 votes.

However, the ultimate winners were Carter, Kowalski and  Granados.

Board of Education candidates were also on the ballot, however due the withdrawal of challenger Jonathan Blitt a few months before elections, the candidates were all incumbents who won additional three-year terms. The winners include, Mitch Slater with 3,789 votes, Ginny Liez with 3,575 and Brendan Galligan with 3,581.

When it came to the Westfield Public School’s district bond referendum to get back $2.7 million dollars towards roof repairs, voters overwhelmingly chose yes with 6,836 votes, but 1,694 voters selected no.

Overall, Westfielders ended up favoring Republicans in every single category, which resulted in a 100 percent Republican council, including mayor, come Jan. 1.
