Westfield Week in Review

What happened in Westfield this week?

Westfield to reconsider the midblock location of the pedestrian activated HAWK light on Central Avenue. Greg Kasko also asked the Council what its plans are, should the SAFER (Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response) grants not be approved. Although he was told two weeks ago by Acting Mayor JoAnn Neylan that someone would get back to him, no one has, he stated.

He also asked questions regarding the Westfield Police Department. Specifically, Kasko wanted to know why the Town purchased a new Dodge Durango for the detective department, at a cost of $24,161, when they could use the one left behind by outgoing chief John Parizeau. Kasko also asked that question on  but it was unanswered. Further, Kasko inquired as to why three sargeants are supervising three detectives. All of Kasko's questions were met with silence. 

Westfield resident Ross Katz also asked for improved upkeep of the downtown area, particularly surrounding the South Avenue rail station.

After a 30-year wait, longtime Westfield will receive a Bronze Star medal at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 24 for his valorous achievement during the Battle of the Bulge.
