Update 9:38 a.m. Sunday: Westfield Warming, Charging Stations Available

As temperatures drop and Westfielders seek warmth and an opportunity to charge electronic devices, several local centers are opening their doors to those in need.

Jefferson Elementary School, located at 1200 Boulevard, opened at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3 and will remain open for warmth until school re-opens. No food, drinks or sleep arrangements are available.

The Westfield Y is up and running. As a community service, the Y invites anyone who is still without power to come to the Y for a hot shower and to power up their electronic devices. Just bring ID.

The Westfield Neighborhood Council, 127 Cacciola Place, Westfield, will be open today until power is restored throughout the town to charge electronics. The hours are 10 a.m. to noon,  2-4 p.m. and from 6-8 p.m. The Neighborhood Council is offering to accept donations of food, water and clothing for those in need. 

Zion Lutheran Church of Clark, 559 Raritan Road, Clark, NJ has power, light, and heat and will be open from 8 a.m. - 9 p.m. for anyone who wants to warm up, charge a cell phone, etc. Coffee and tea will be available.

The Westfield Memorial Library will be open today, Sunday, Nov. 4 from 1 to 5 p.m. 

Temple Emanu-El has been open to all for warmth, charging, and coffee and has been throughout the week. The Temple will re-open to everyone on Sunday at 9 a.m.

Keller Williams Realty, located at 188 Elm St., will be open Monday and has invited residents to come in to charge their phones.  

The Union County Medical Reserve Corps has been activated to staff a regional shelter at the Cranford Community Center, 220 Walnut Ave. in Cranford.

The shelter is accepting pets, however, owners must bring crates for animals, food, and litter and any waste disposal bags, etc. for their pets. If animals pose a threat they will have to be removed.

Limited food and water are available for people. No medications will be available. Those in need of the shelter are advised to bring their own medications, any personal hygiene items, etc.

Also, a regional Special Needs/Functional Needs Shelter is located in nearby Middlesex County at: the Woodbridge Community Center, 600 Main St. Woodbridge. The center is located near Woodbridge Center.

Power has been restored to many businesses in downtown Westfield as of Sunday morning.
