NJ Greek Fest Starts Today in Westfield

The festival, hosted by Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, begins at 5 p.m. today and runs through Sunday, June 3.

New Jersey Greek Fest chairman Peter Ladas spoke before the Westfield Town Council at its  meeting on May 22 and invited everyone to "Come be Greek for a day!" as hosts its annual Greek Fest.

The festival, which draws thousands from the tri-state area, starts today and will run from 5 to 10 p.m. and continue from noon to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, June 1 and 2. The festival concludes on Sunday, when it will begin after church services at noon and wrap up at 5 p.m.

Mayor Andy Skibitsky said he has attended the festival in past years and called it "a wonderful event."

"The Greek Warriors" will once again perform a living history demonstration for the crowd. The Greek-American band "The Trojans," who has performed for two U.S. Presidents as well as the Queen of England, will be back in town, too.

Any festival wouldn't be complete without food. The four-day fair includes Greek favorites such as lamb shanks, gyros, pork or chicken souvlaki and moussaka as well as traditional desserts and pastries like baklava and koulourgia. For a complete list of items, visit the website
