The Week Ahead: Meetings and Halloween Events

What's happening in Westfield this week?

Monday:

The Friends of the Westfield Memorial Library will host a children's book sale in the main meeting room Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 22 and 23 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24 from 9:30 a.m. to noon is bag day.

The Westfield Memorial Library presents "Paws to Read," offering children a chance to read to therapy dogs, from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. Call the library to sign up in advance.

The Westfield Board of Education will meet at 7:30 p.m. at 302 Elm St. The Board will continue to discuss roof repairs.

Tuesday:

The Westfield Town Council will meet at 8 p.m. at the Municipal Building. 

Wednesday:

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark: from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Youth Story Room, fifth and sixth graders can listen to some truly terrifying tales--some old, some new--to put us in a proper Halloween mood. Absolutely must be in fifth or sixth grade! Online pre-registration, open to full-service Westfield Library card holders.There is a registration limit, so sign up early. Registration opens September 30.

Thursday:

The Library Board will conduct its monthly meeting from 8 to 9 p.m. in the Meeting Room.

Friday:

The passion of Spanish Flamenco comes to the stage at the wonderfully intimate Galeria West Art & Music Gallery in downtown Westfield, NJ on Friday, October 26, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tickets are priced at $20 for adults and $10 for children. Hedgehog & Feather Theatre Co. is thrilled to announce the Halloween Family Event of the season with Creature Double Feature: Frankenstein - Dracula at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 26, and Saturday, Oct. 27. All tickets are $15.

Looking ahead:

Bring the little ghosts, ghouls and goblins downtown in costume to trick-or-treat in the retail stores and restaurants throughout Westfield from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 28. The Optimist Club of Westfield will sponsor a Halloween Parade beginning at 3 p.m. on Quimby Street. Children should line up at 2:30 p.m. The costume contest and parade are now combined. Costume contest judges will watch the parade and distribute awards during and after it.
