What's happening in Westfield this week?

Monday: 

Congressman Leonard Lance (NJ-07) will hold a listening session with Westfield business leaders to discuss the impact of pending tax relief that is set to expire January 1, 2013. Westfield Mayor Andy Skibitsky and others are expected to participate. Lance’s listening session with area business leaders will begin at noon at  located at 13 Quimby Street in Westfield.

The Paul Jackson Fund will host an for youth volunteers who are interested in starting Paul Jackson Fund clubs at local high schools. The program will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Fund's 223 Elmer Street location.

Sweet Sounds Downtown Jazz Festival continues from 7 to 9 p.m. The following is a list of tonight's performers: B. D. Lenz - Central Ave., Anthony Nelson - E. Broad St. & North Ave., Christine Spero Group - Elm St. and Scarlett Lee Moore - North Ave.

Wednesday:

Healthful, light and easy to prepare, seafood makes a perfect summertime meal. If you are looking for new ways to include more seafood in your diet this summer, the Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Union County will be offering its popular “Seafood at its Best” cooking class once again, complete with food tastings.

The two-session class will be held on Wednesday, August 1 and 8, 2012 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., at the Extension offices in the County Services Building, 300 North Avenue East, Westfield. 

Pre-registration is required by mail to Rutgers Cooperative Extension, 300 North Avenue East, Westfield NJ 07090 (attn. Judi Laganga), with a check for $25.00 made out to “NJ Cooperative Extension-Cook.”

Thursday:

At 8 p.m.  offers Krav Maga Self Defense for women only. For a limited time, classes are free. Sign up is available through the website or by calling Jason at 732-684-0929.

Friday:

Every Friday in August Brooklyn-based children's musician, Kevin Meeker, will be hosting free “Music for Aardvarks” classes at in Westfield. Reserve your spot Online - Space is limited!! Music for Aardvarks is a musical experience for families with children ages 6 months to 5yrs.

From 1:30 to 3:15 p.m. the Westfield Memorial Library will present a program including a video on the music of one of Broadway's greatest legends, Stephen Sondheim.
