Playground Camps Start Friday

Counselors train on Wednesday and Thursday

The Recreation Department's summer playground program will start this Friday, offering a summertime activity for the children of Westfield.

Counselors in the program will undergo training on Wednesday and Thursday at the Municipal Building in order to prepare for the popular program. The department offers camps at the playgrounds of each of the town's six elementary schools for children from kindergarten to fifth grade. A special "teen scene" program is being held at the Tamaques Park playground for children in intermediate school.

The playground camps include a variety of activities, from sports to arts and crafts. Each camp will hold special fair nights during the seven week program to raise money for the individual playground camps. Children participating will be creating their own booths for these fairs. In addition, once a week the camps will be traveling to Memorial Pool for group swims. A summer Olympics at the pool is planned. Each playground will also organize special tournaments for children in a variety of sports.
